KÄRLEKS VERS

Jag förälskar mig i en ängel
Vem visar sig på drömmar och syn.
Hans ord är tyst och trofull;

Writing in Swedish! Very cool. When I was a kid we occasionaly sang Swedish hymns in church. I haven't heard the language much since then. I wonder what this sounds like.

Was that a Lutheran Church? My grandfather immigrated to America from Sweden in 1925.

No, it was an Evangelical Covenant church. That denomination came to America with Swedish imigrants, and when I was a kid many of the older ones still spoke Swedish. But even then it was more nostalgia than any necessity, for they all had been here a very long time. Probably about the time your grandfather came.

So you have been back to Sweden?

i think it takes courage to write in a language that is foreign. impressive. i am also surprised at how close swedish seems to be to german, because i can make a lot of fairly good guesses what the words are. :-)

btw i just posted a triolet.

Doug, I went to Sweden in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2005. I hope to return in May 2009. Annette, you are the one who is brilliant at writing verse in a non-native language!
