NATURAL DAY OF PRAYER

Because it is May, and the sun
Yawns over the mountain –
The birds turn into accountants –
Grass dews under the Day.

Because it is Thine, and the trees
Grow next to the hedges –
The way connects to the edges
Of sky – And life is mine.

Because it is Spring, and the air
Dawns out of the canyon –
The east reviews golden banners –
Nature’s prayer bids us sing.

Cynthia,

I haven't been here for a while. Your poems used to sound much like ED, which was impressive enough, but I think now that they sound like an original voice. The Luke 7 poem was absolutely great! I need to take some time to catch up with all you've posted since I last came by!

I missed your comments, Doug. So glad to have your feedback again. Rilke wrote in the Orpheus sonnets that "Dasein ist Gesang." That is, "To sing is to exist" with singing as a metaphor for writing lyric poetry. I am living by poems and songs these days.
