“I BELONG TO A FAMILY”

“I BELONG TO A FAMILY”

You made a trusty Nest for me
Before my mortal birth –
So I could learn to feed and sing
When I arrived on earth.

You kept me safely snug and warm,
Then taught me how to fly.
I thank you, Mother, Father dear,
For showing me the Sky.

It is very simple. I wrote it in a thank you card for the children to take home to their parents. The nest metaphor is a very tender way to explain to children why get married and prepare a home together before they bring babies into the world. "What would happen if the baby birds came, and the Mama Bird & Papa Bird had not prepared a nest?"
