HERD PSALM
The deer descend in agile stealth –
Their eyes the only spark of self –
They browse the stiff mahogany –
They tiptoe through the reverie.
Their eyes are taut with vigilance –
Their legs are lean with confidence –
They scatter if they see me breathe –
They gather when they hear me sleep.
